When breast and nipple reconstruction are completed, colouring of the nipple-areola complex is required. This requires medical tattooing. The tattoo is performed in the office under local anaesthetic.
The appropriate colour to match the areola and nipple of the other breast is carefully selected and the tattoo is designed in a way to achieve symmetry between the two sides. Some patients are required to repeat the tattoo session in a few years time to embrace the colour.
