Atrophic are the upper and lower limbs that during childhood or puberty suffer an injury or a pathological condition that delay their development. More often this is found on the lower limbs and especially at the calf area.
The plastic surgeon will examine the patient, evaluate the degree of atrophy, investigate the underlying condition, and suggest the appropriate reconstruction method according to the patient’s age and body surface.
Thus, some patients may require the use of an expander which will gradually inflate with saline water in order to create the appropriate space for a specially designed for the area implant.
