Breast reconstruction, with expander/implant or with autologous tissue from the patient’s abdomen or back, is finalized with the reconstruction of the nipple.
It is relatively simple procedure, which requires local anaesthetic and is done on an outpatient. During surgery, a small “smart” flap is designed on the new breast. The flap is dissected, folded in a way to form a new nipple and positioned at the appropriate height. Postoperatively the patient is required to wear a special dressing to protect the new nipple for a period of 5 days.
